Perception of democracy and respect for human rights among migrants and citizens in Côte d’Ivoire

The aim of the study is to analyze the differences between migrants and citizens in terms of their perception of democracy and respect for human rights in Côte d’Ivoire. Using data from the Harmonized Household Survey 2021/2022 in Côte d’Ivoire, this study performs an analysis of variance (ANOVA) on a sample of 1620 randomly selected participants, including both migrants and citizens. The findings indicate a significant difference between migrants and citizens. Migrants in Côte d’Ivoire have a higher perception of democracy and respect for human rights than Ivoirian citizens. The outcome also shows the same pattern by sociodemographic characteristics, such as gender, age, education, quality of life, and area of residence. These findings call for peaceful democracy and human rights-friendly environment improvement, as it is a matter for all, regardless of their legal status.
