Murdoch is undoubtedly one of the most prolific and widely accepted writers of the 20th century. Her work includes 26 novels, 5 plays, 4 books on philosophy, a short story, a collection of poems, numerous essays on philosophy and aesthetics.
Iris Murdoch deals with many important issues in her novels. Sometimes this is visible on the surface of the text, but in many cases it requires special thinking on the part of the reader to understand the novel and, in particular, the author's intention. The themes that we find in his novels are relevant and important for all times. It discusses the problems of love, freedom, morality, truth, alienation. Murdoch herself characterizes her work as a "pilgrimage" from illusion to reality, and it is this path that his protagonists must succeed in passing in order to become worthy of communion with the ultimate truth.
Considering the topics that the writer writes about, it should not be surprising that the interest in her work increases in direct proportion. It should be noted that Murdoch's greatest work is inexhaustible for researchers. Every new article surprises people interested in Murdoch. Researchers and critics of the writer are sure that in the 21st century, the writer will be even more appreciated and recognized in society, will attract more readers, since the issues discussed in his novels cannot be forgotten and will not be relevant for modern readers. Criticism written to the writer's work is diverse. The research includes critical literature of different periods, as it allows us not only to follow the development of critical literature towards the writer, but also to see the development of literary taste in general over time.
