Annotation

Through a discussion of Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” this paper uses psychology and sociology research to explore how such a view is oversimplified and idealistic. Since consenting or giving permission is a conscious choice, this paper argues that by attributing feelings of inferiority to weakness, choice, or lack of willpower, Roosevelt's perspective overlooks the pivotal role of subconscious conditioning and past trauma in feelings of inferiority.
