In this study, carbon dots were synthesized using chitosan and thiourea via hydrothermal treatment at 180 °C for 4 hours. The synthesized carbon dots were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis. The size of the synthesized carbon dots was found to be in the range of 8 nm to 10 nm. These carbon dots were used as a green corrosion inhibitor to mitigate the corrosion of mild steel (MS) in 0.5 M HCl solution using the gravimetric method. The studied carbon dots exhibited an inhibition efficiency of 91.70% at a concentration of 200 mg/L and a temperature of 303 K. The observed corrosion inhibition is attributed to the adsorption of the carbon dots onto the MS surface.
